Public Association “Association of Women with Disabilities “Shyrak” distributes rehabilitation equipment
An annual charity event to distribute rehabilitation equipment among 50 women with disabilities (wheelchairs, canes, crutches, walking supports, bathtub and toilet stools, etc.) took place on 28 December 2011 at the National Library for the Blind and the Visually Impaired in Almaty. The event was made possible by the support of Intergas Central Asia JSC.
Since 2005 Association “Shyrak” has been regularly distributing rehabilitation equipment among its members. So women are able not only to move better but also to have many of their household problems facilitated and resolved. The variety of aids available is being constantly expanded so as to satisfy the varying needs of women with different categories of disabilities. Thus, for example, canes alone came in four different modifications.
By conducting such activities Association “Shyrak” seeks not only to provide assistance to its members but also to raise awareness of the need to improve the provision of rehabilitation equipment to persons with disabilities, to expand the variety of aids available, to improve the quality of adaptation aids provided by the government and to adopt a case-by-case approach to an individual’s disability and needs.
The activity has sought to assist women with disabilities in fuller, better and brighter realization of their rights.
